The #FridayFive is back. This week, we pick 5 of the top TV Homes. So many great TV shows with homes that we could have made a #FridayTen. We decided against it as it doesn’t have the same ring. Have a look through the list, let us know if we missed any of your favourites.
Fresh Prince of Bel Air – Banks House
Now, this is the story all about how a classic 90’s hit TV Sitcom starring Will Smith gave us one of the most lavish TV homes of all time. Based in Bel Air (the clue is in the title of the show), the actual home can be found 5 miles away in another exclusive area of Los Angeles. The 1937 mansion, located in Brentwood Park, is a two-story building with five en-suite bedrooms, beautiful fireplaces, and even an outdoor swimming pool. Current valuations estimate the value to be over $8 million.
Friends – Monia & Rachels Apartment
Another great show which started in the 90’s was set around 6 Friends (wonder how long it took them to come up with the name) living in the trendy West Village, New York. The real apartment building can be found in Greenwich Village whilst the interior was filmed on the West Coast at the Warner Brothers Studios in Beverly Hills. In the show, Monica and Rachel pay $200/month for their West Village apartment. However, estimates in 2017 suggested that rent would now be $4,500/month. JUST FOR RENT!!!
Gavin and Stacy – Pam and Mick’s House
A modern-day love story. A tale of a boy from Essex falling in love with a girl from Barry. Gavin lives with his parents, Pam and Mick, in Billericay, Essex. But as with a lot of TV shows, the actual house used for filming is over 200 miles away in a small village in South Wales. Unfortunately, living at Pam and Mick’s isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, according to the real owners. With the popularity of the show came a rise in the number of “tourists” wanting to pop round and have a look.
Downton Abbey – Downton Abbey
Of all the homes on our list, the real Downton Abbey actively invites people to visit and have a look around. The show, set in the early 20th century, is based on the Crawley family, who call Downton Abbey home. The actual filming location is Highclere Castle, Newbury, which is the home of the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and is open at various times throughout the year. Current estimates value the castle could sell for roughly £137 million
Breaking Bad – White Residence
The final TV home is that of high school chemistry teacher Walter White. Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, it follows the characters’ transition from teacher to drug lord. The house was used throughout all 5 seasons and is somewhat of a tourist attraction. Like Pam and Mick’s real house, the owners of Walter’s home weren’t too keen on the attention that came with living in a TV home. According to the homeowner’s daughter, rocks have been stolen and pizza thrown onto the roof (a nod to an episode of the show). However, since the show’s end in 2013, the owners have since built a 6-foot fence to keep out eager fans.
